James is a partner at Gauer Olsen who specializes in taxation needs for medical professionals. He works predominately with medical doctors, specialists, dentists and other incorporated professionals.
He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary and obtained two bachelor’s degrees. One in Commerce with majors in Accounting and Entrepreneurship, as well as Humanities with a major in German literature and language. James completed two years of the In-Depth Tax Program, CPA Canada’s flagship certification on taxation. After some time abroad to work on his fluency in both French and German, James also expanded his knowledge with a diploma in French Culinary Arts.
Articling in both Calgary, AB and Christchurch, NZ for Ernst & Young and Grant Thornton, he has gained valuable experience in multiple industries and client service. James’ work experience has been primarily focused on servicing professionals in the areas of taxation, wealth preservation and estate planning.
James focuses on creating a Family Office style environment for all his clients. Being a client means a high degree of involvement by him and his team to manage aspects related to taxation and coordination of financial affairs. In a Family Office you should expect service, responsiveness and good advice to plan for the immediate but more importantly, the future.
Outside of the office, James is an avid golfer and downhill skier. There is never too much powder that can’t be conquered! Gauer Olsen continues to support youth sports and focuses on hockey, if there is a Victoria Royals game in town, be sure to look for him there!
