James is a partner at Gauer Olsen whose expertise is in accounting and taxation needs for medical professionals. He works predominately with medical doctors, dentists and other incorporated professionals.
Articling in both Calgary, AB and Christchurch, NZ for Ernst & Young and Grant Thornton, he has gained valuable experience in multiple industries and client service. James’ work experience has been primarily focused in servicing professionals and various small businesses in creating solutions to increase profitability and optimize tax planning for owners.
James completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary and obtained bachelor degrees in Commerce with majors in Accounting and Entrepreneurship, as well as Humanities with a major in German literature and language. After some time abroad to work on his fluency in German and complete a diploma in French Culinary Arts, James returned to Canada and completed his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation. Currently, he is enrolled in the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada’s In-depth Tax course to obtain further expertise in taxation.
Outside of the office, James is an avid gardener and chef. He bikes regularly to work to keep his legs primed for ski season, there is never too much powder! With a new family, he also squeezes in time to play his piano with his young son.
Don is a partner at Gauer Olsen with over 25 years of experience in public practice. He has extensive experience in a broad range of clients including professionals, construction, manufacturing, retail and not-for-profit. His area of practise includes business advisory services, corporate and personal tax planning, estate tax, corporate reorganizations, purchasing and selling a business, research and development tax filings (SR&ED), and an assortment of other matters.
Becoming a partner in 2003, Don is one of the founding members in the firm’s line of partners. Instrumental in the direction of the firm, Don’s expertise has grounded the firm as a client-focused tax firm in Victoria for professionals and small business.
Parminder Kang is a CPA Student articling at Gauer Olsen. He studied at Camosun College where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting and minor in Finance. Parminder’s interests include medical professionals, small businesses and personal and corporate taxes. In his free time Parminder enjoys hiking, baseball, volleyball, weightlifting and spending time with his friends and family.
Shelby Wong is a CPA Student articling at Gauer Olsen. She studied at Camosun College where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting and minor in Finance. Shelby has a unique knowledge in the landscaping and construction industry, she also works with medical professionals and not-for-profits. In her free time Shelby enjoys camping, travelling, volleyball and spending time with her family and friends.
Dee has been with the firm for nearly 20 years. She studied at Camosun College to complete programs in Business Administration. Having seen the accounting and bookkeeping professions progress over the last two decades, she is always current on the latest software. Dee's unique knowledge allows her to maintain client files in a fully digitized form with the latest security protocols, as well as advise clients on the ins and outs of payroll and other bookkeeping matters. In her free time Dee is a crafty person, enjoys photography, researching genealogy history and spending time with family and friends.
Trish is a CPA student articling at Gauer Olsen. She studied at the University of British Columbia where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. Trish uses her problem-solving skills to tackle all sorts of issues. In her free time, she enjoys cross country skiing, volleyball, camping and spending time with neighborhood cats.
Jennifer Li is a CPA Student articling at Gauer Olsen. She emigrated from Beijing, China in 2002 to study Applied Linguistics at University of Victoria. With a passion for numbers, she returned to Camosun College to complete a Post Degree Diploma in Business Administration with major in Accounting. In her free time Jennifer enjoys swimming, cycling, volunteering and spending time with her family and friends.
